I understand that paying in USD might raise some questions, so I want to take a moment to explain why I’ve chosen this approach.
Since 2018, I’ve charged in USD because over 70% of my business is conducted internationally. Operating in USD helps me:
Streamline pricing for a global audience.
Reduce complexity (and confusion) when managing international transactions.
Keep the business running smoothly by focusing on what matters most—delivering value to you.
Keeps the business alive - since charging USD it has removed the friction for the vast majority of customers who come from outside Australia.
For a small business like mine, this approach makes a significant difference in maintaining operations and ensuring I can continue to serve customers around the world. At the end of the day, this business is almost exclusively an online business and the currency of the web is USD.
What Does This Mean for Australian Customers?
If you’re based in Australia, I want to reassure you:
You’re not paying more than the AUD equivalent. In fact, due to exchange rate fluctuations, you might even pay less. As a guide, my main books all used to sell for AUD$47. These books all sell for less than USD$30 - this is cheaper than what they used to sell for.
Plus, I absorb the GST for these payments, meaning there are no added costs for Australian customers.
This approach allows me to focus on offering great value to all customers, regardless of where they are in the world.
A Note About Smaller Businesses
I know this pricing model might feel different from what you’d experience with larger companies like Amazon. As a smaller business, charging in USD allows me to simplify operations while remaining competitive and sustainable in a global marketplace. It's just not that easy for a small business to offer all sorts of currencies on the checkout page (if it were easy, I'd be doing it!)
Thank you for your understanding and support—it means everything to me. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me directly.
